Workshops/Private lessons with Shinji

Graceful Freestyle Techniques

This workshop will walk through the process of acquiring skills for graceful freestyle, which is created by Shinji Takeuchi, the head coach of Total Immersion Japan. His Youtube video is now watched by more than five million people and ranked number one worldwide among videos by famous swimmers. Shinji will reveal the secrets of graceful freestyle, which you cannot find in any kind of Total Immersion learning materials.

We focus on smooth streamline, relaxed recovery and efficient propulsion, as well as "leveraged" two beat kick. Since all skills are based on Total Immersion drills, we recommend you take TI1.0 workshops or equivalent prior to attend this workshop.

Video files will be available for downloading along with drill samples.

WHAT TO BRING:
For the classroom: Medical Release form, pad and pen for note taking.
For the pool: An extra suit & towel if you want dry ones for the second swim session, an extra pair of goggles. We recommend that male students wear a Speedo-type brief or close-fitting triathlon swim shorts, rather than loose-fitting swim trunks, which can make balance even more of a challenge.

CANCELLATION POLICY:
NO REFUND will be issued for cancellations LESS THAN 8 days prior to the scheduled workshop unless a doctor's note can be provided. For cancellations at least 8 days prior to the scheduled workshop, all deposit will be refunded in full.

Smart Speed with Effective Underwater Stroke

This one day course takes you through all the levels of effective underwater stroke for swimming freestyle.
Shinji Takeuchi, TI Japan Head Coach and the YouTube Swimmer, will direct the workshop, sharing secrets of his renowned graceful freestyle, which has resulted in his becoming a Youtube sensation.
We'll teach you the following three skill levels of underwater stroke to swim "Shinji-like" Freestyle;

Level 1 (Easy level): Effective Catch by holding the water.
The effective stroke is based on propulsion with switch action. We will teach you how to hold the water before the switch. By keeping the shape of the arm during the stroke, you can push more water back thus you can create more propulsion.

Level 2 (Kaizen level): Effective Push by coordinating with body roll.
The key to keeping your speed is to utilize a large part of muscles when you stroke. By coordinating hand stroke with body roll, you can use the power of torso so that you can keep your speed longer.

Level 3 (Mastery level): Maximizing the whole underwater stroke by introducing leverages.
We will introduce the concept of leverage to maximize the propulsion. There are several types of leverages for underwater stroke.

This curriculum is TI Japan original. No lesson videos are available in English. So it is very rare opportunity to study "state-of-the-art TI skills" from the master.

Video sessions will be uploaded for free for your viewing after the workshop.
This workshop is recommended for those who have taken a TI workshop or its equivalent in private lessons or through self-coaching. To maximize its benefits, you should have a strong foundation in the Balance, and SwingSwitch sequences and/or the ability to swim with comfort and efficiency (though not 'fast') for 100yards or meters.
